Detail Info
Summary |
To investigate whether the NET gene is a candidate locus in predisposing to ADHD, two single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) mapped to intron 7 and 9 of the NET were genotyped in ADHD nuclear families from Ireland. All cases were diagnosed according to the DSM-IV criteria for ADHD. Eighty-five percent of the ADHD cases were male. Transmission disequilibrium test (TDT) was used to examine the presence or the absence of linkage or association between NET gene polymorphisms and ADHD. |
Total Sample |
118 children from 111 families [Daly et al., 1999]. |
Diagnosis Description |
DSM-IV |
Technique |
Stober et al., 1996 |
Analysis Method |
LD between the two loci was measured using the program GOLD. Transmission disequilibrium test (TDT) was used to examine the presence or the absence of linkage or association between NET gene polymorphisms and ADHD. Haplotype analysis was conducted using the programme TRANSMIT. |
Result Description |
The two loci are in strong LD with each other (D'=0.71, P=0.00000). TDT analysis showed no distortion in the transmission of any allele to the ADHD cases. Haplotype analysis showed no distortion in the transmission of marker haplotypes. |

On the basis of results in this study it appears that the NET protein does not play a role in predisposing to ADHD at least in this Irish population.
